COVID-19 Helpful Tips

By Gloria Sanchez, Adams County Site Coordinator

COVID-19 is an ever-changing pandemic.  The information in relation to this disease is constantly being updated and can be different from one day to another.  The one message that seems to remain a constant throughout this pandemic is the importance of staying safe, staying informed, and staying connected.
How are we supposed to do this given all of the uncertainty?  We are being advised to stay at home and avoid crowds, or gatheringsespecially with people determined to be high risk, such as those over the age of 60 or those with compromised immune systems.  But what do you do, when the primary caregiver of a child is a grandparent over 60?  It definitely turns into a more challenging situation, because how does a caregiver separate themselves from their grandchild when they are all they depend on?
While it is certainly difficult, following a few a recommendations a caregiver can help ensure the well-being of their grandfamily.
STAY SAFE - Wash your hands.  Wash your hands.  Wash your hands.  And don’t touch your face.  We cannot emphasize this enough.  Clean and disinfect all common areas and surfaces.
STAY INFORMED - Be sure to stay up to date with all of the latest information as possible.  COVID-19 is emerging and evolving every day.  You can find factual data at The CDC – Center for Disease Control and Prevention or at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html.
STAY CONNECTED  Safer at home does not equal isolation.  We must continue to connect with friends and family.  Technology has played a big role in our ability to continue to share with our loved ones during this pandemic.  Many platforms are available to allow us to network and stay connected.  For more ideas on how to stay connected check out Generations United blog at https://buff.ly/3aJN2z8
GRANDfamilies are resilient and we will come out strong.  For more information please review the attached COVID-19 fact sheet provided below by Generations United.
